Sweden has provided voluntary funding to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) to support its ongoing mission to eradicate chemical weapons globally. This financial contribution reinforces Sweden’s long-standing political and financial commitment to upholding the Chemical Weapons Convention, enhancing capacity-building programs, and supporting critical field operations and verification activities.
2. United Kingdom provides voluntary funding of more than EUR 1.3 million to enhance OPCW’s work
The United Kingdom has pledged more than €1.3 million in voluntary contributions to support the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). This substantial financial boost is aimed at strengthening the OPCW’s core missions, enhancing global capabilities against chemical threats, and supporting critical verification, capacity-building, and operational activities across key trust funds.
3. OPCW Director-General makes official visit to China
OPCW Director-General Sabrina Dallafior, alongside an Executive Council delegation, completed an official visit to China to observe the destruction of Japanese abandoned chemical weapons (ACWs). During the visit, the delegation inspected recovery and destruction operations in Jilin Province, where over 150,000 ACW items have been safely recovered and verifiably destroyed, and met with senior Chinese officials in Beijing to discuss Convention implementation, science and technology advances, and ongoing multilateral cooperation.
