Experts from OPCW Latin American and Caribbean Member States enhance their chemical emergency response capabilities

On August 14-19 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, twenty first-responders advanced their skills in managing chemical emergencies during the Integrated Advanced Course and Exercise for States Parties from Latin America and the Caribbean co-organised by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Argentina’s National Authority for the Chemical Weapons Convention and the Special Risk Brigade of Argentina’s Federal Police.

Monaco contributes €10,000 to OPCW missions in Syria

The Government of the Principality of Monaco has voluntarily contributed €10,000 to the Trust Fund for Syria Missions of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

OPCW Director-General visits the United Arab Emirates

The Director-General met with the UAE’s Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr Sultan Al Shamsi. The two officials reviewed progress in the implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) and discussed opportunities as well as challenges for the OPCW in the current international security environment.

First responders from Africa enhance leadership skills in chemical emergency management

The OPCW and the Government of the Republic of South Africa co-organised an Incidents Commanders Course for African States Parties from 21 August to 1 September at the Ditholo Airforce Base in Tshwane, South Africa. The aim of the course was to equip participants from African States Parties with the leadership capacities required to handle chemical emergencies and to increase the number of experts able to operate in a command role.
