The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) has extended the deadline for nominations to the 2024 OPCW-The Hague Award to August 31, 2024.
The OPCW-The Hague Award is a prize established in 2014 to recognize those in academia, research, the chemical industry, international and regional organizations, and civil society, who make outstanding contributions to achieving a world free of chemical weapons. It was established in honor of the OPCW being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2013 in recognition of its own efforts to rid the world of chemical weapons.
Recipients of the award receive a medallion, a certificate, and a share of a €90,000 ($97,400) prize fund, jointly supported by the OPCW and the Municipality of The Hague.
Last year’s winners were the Spiez Laboratory in Switzerland; Dr Syeda Sultana Razia, Professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology and member of the OPCW Scientific Advisory Board (SAB); and Dr Hubert K Foy, Founding Director and Senior Research Scientist at the African Centre for Science and International Security in Ghana.
